the president calling

Sean Butscher- The president calling
I Listened to the conversations between Kennedy and Ross Barnett about James Merideth becoming the first African american to attend the university of Mississippi. Kennedy is trying to persuade Barnnet into allowing Merideth to attend the school because the president wants to avoid any rioting and doesn't want to send federal troops to protect Meredith. Barnett explains to Kennedy that he cannot allow integration of schools in Mississippi because it is against state law and he took an oath to abide by the state law. Despite Barnetts efforts to keep law and order white racists grab arms and riot in oxford attempting to prevent Merideth from attending Ole Miss.  Kennedy was forced to send federal troops to oxford to protect Merideth and put down the riots. These conversations between Kennedy and Barnett were interesting because they showed how hard it was just to make a simple political decision.
